'Rolling Thunder' written in Japanese Katakana characters

The Chrysalis Powwow is intended to harbor the first discussions about the implementation of Redefine God / Religion 2.0. The group of members of this network that christened itself as The 7Samurai decided to do something about that, start this sort of brainstorming to identify possible ways of transforming this network, which now is basically a discussion board, into the Mecca of people who thinks that the task of redefining God is a critical issue for the 21st century. Sidian Morning Star Jones, our boss, is preparing an ambitious wiki project intended to cover the fields of parapsychology, mysticism and other important areas to the approach of the human concepts of God. Meanwhile, The 7Samurai will try to use their skills helping to erect this Mecca.

All members of RG, warriors or villagers are invited to post their ideas/comments here, as well as contribute by all other means.

Kambei, dear warriors

I have lots of things to do this weekend, but here's what is in the foreground of my brains right now; a question and two suggestions:

1) What do you think this spot needs as an introductory reference to the people who bump here searching for info on its main subject? And besides that, what else could it offer?

2) I feel the lack of a good introductory text; one exclusive page featuring Zeitgeist the movie, if that is possible; I believe in the powers of Shamanic music, and that is usually copyright free. Why not start to gather a substantial archive of ethno/Shamanic music right now? I have this CD with the powerful tribal music of the Babenzelé pygmies to add to that. What about technoshaman music, TESHiru miFUNNY, dear TESH? Something immediately available, any samples?

3) A list of all sins from the monotheistic/tragic religions, esp. the catholic church and zionism. That would lead, maybe, to a huge worldwide trial centered on a petition like website maintained by RG, results sent to all authorities, how about that? I think perhaps that would put RG on top, what do you think?

Let's think about some homework?
As I posted in the other discussion, if you're gonna hit Christians and Jews you gotta get Muslims as well. Hindus have shed their share of blood too. Fair is fair...

One of my pet peeves is that people love to post very insulting thing about Christians because they are easy targets. Nobody post the same things about Islam because they don't want to get car bombed or beheaded with a picnic knife.
Gorobei, I agree with Jeff, especially when discussing evidences of atrocities carried out in the name of religion, we need to be as fair and objective as possible. Your proposed 3rd category also looks likely to being a very complex and overly ambitious project for just the few of us as yet active participants to really do it any sort of justice.

I agree that ZEITGEIDT THE MOVIE, especially part one, should hold forefront position to this thread, as I personally would like to discuss how the Jewish and Christian bible writers drew from the gods and myths of the peoples they lived amongst and the nations around them, and incorporated these into their own versions of 'sacred' texts.

Also as Kambei, the modern 21st century spiritual warrior, I’d also like tagged to my new avatar, the following 5 quotes that reflect the ideals of my own philosophical viewpoints as to life…

What lies behind us, and what lies before us, are tiny matters, compared to what lies within us. - Ralph Waldo Emerson

Who looks outside dreams, who looks inside wakes. - CG Jung

Insomuch as love grows in you, so in you beauty grows. For love is the beauty of the soul. - St Augustine

The greatest human conquest is to know what one must do in order to become a human being. - Immanuel Kant

The greatest loss, that of oneself, may pass unnoticed. - Seren Kierkgaard
Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing ever happened. - Winston Churchill
my comrades
in arms
of my comrades
embrace
my comrades
in war
and spiritual grace

blessed be the sword
that divides truth
not from falsehood
but from the sooth

the art of war
the battles rage
not in hearts
but where the hay
is reaped
where the barley dries
shriven by wind
there will we lie

Gorobei, there is something delicious simmering on the charcoal stove. But, it is not yet ready to serve. Enjoy the scent and the promise of what will come, served tomorrow or Monday.
The need to rethink God comes from many dissatisfactions. Most are related to our incapacity in dealing with concepts that became unacceptable by the development of knowledge. But when I examine the history of religions, or human history for that matter, I have the feeling that the basically tragic essence of Catholic religion was a main factor for all those wars, prosecutions, burnings etc. As for today, I suspect that the Vatican doesn't show any substantial objection to the paths of modern civilization (except for condoms etc.) because of that tragical principle. The worst, the better. Those sobs want to have the Armageddon actualized.

Sorry, but you'll have to put up with my wish to hit their kidneys on these subjects.

Nice quotes, friends. I don't have any at hand, so I'll post one of TASH's favorites:

Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others – Groucho Marx
Shichirōji, master of the art of the subtle whistle, as well as that of the encouraging and propelling words, and there's also that of the transporting images, as much as that of the healing magic... enough for you, infidels? This warrior has still other arts in store. What is it that our Shichirōji is preparing for us? Shall we salivate in anticipation? Shall we fear? Shall we prepare for battle?
Fanatics are "easy targets". I can respect a serious, balanced, critical person who happen to be Christian, Muslim or whatever.

Fanatics are actually not so much easy targets anyhow, as they are random attackers. We just fight back with the certainty that our art is much better, our truth more refined. They are bad warriors, bad philosophers, bad intellectuals ... it's not our fault. We would rather avoid the fight but they push us all the time with their untenable beliefs and boring quotes always from the same book.

We just remind them that their sectarian doctrine is not an universally acceptable fact. That for many it is just old BS.

You know what happened to some guy who was giving away bibles at certain Spanish town's high school? Nobody paid any attention to him at first but one day, suddenly, all youngsters were around asking for more and more bibles. They evangelist was radiant... for a moment. Then he realized that the kids had made a huge bonfire and were feeding it with his books. Old BS burns very well.

But was the kids' fault? Not at all. The guy was preaching to them, attacking them stubbornly... and they teached him a lesson. God's ways are twisted... you know.
1) What do you think this spot needs as an introductory reference to the people who bump here searching for info on its main subject? And besides that, what else could it offer?

No idea. The very notion of what do the 7 samurais mean escapes me. I have not watched the film in a loooooong time and can only remember fragments.

2) ... Something immediately available, any samples?

Try Nomadak tx.

3) A list of all sins from the monotheistic/tragic religions, esp. the catholic church and zionism.

Jeff is right in needing to include other religions as well. Zionism is not a religion but an ongoing colonialist project. Judaism is a religion and there are some among them who are anti-Zionists too (sometimes for religious reasons). Equally there are many Zionists who are not Judaistic, not even ethnic Jews.

Among Christians, I do not see that Catholics are more "sinful" than other sects. When Catholics were perscuting Galilleo, Protestants were burning Servet at the stake. If Spanish catholics expelled Jews and Muslims, English protestants enslaved the Irish. And so on. In fact, I don't think that Anglicans are really protestant anyhow, they are more like "national-catholics" actually. But Luther himself signed the "fatwa" condemning the German peasant rebels to be exterminated "like rabid dogs".

Certainly Islam is not innocent either. Ask so many people of Muslim background, ask them how oppresive the "law of god" may be.

Religion as it has been understood historically, has been mostly about politics and about having a department of propaganda that claimed authority from "god". In modern times it's been largely replaced by other secular means, notably the mass media and the secret services and lobbies acting through them. It may be a good chance for a true religious revival but it must be one that doesn't draw from antique alleged revelations directly but from the experience of being alive (more about this in some future random post).
I bow to your culture, Maju. And I love your text, that last sentence is really nice. I see you as our first keyboard. The 7Samurai? Isn't it imprinted in your memory? Well, that's a gap in your culture, man : ) Cinematographic as well as political culture, as it is a true political film. Check the argument at wikipedia. We're using it here just as an allegory, there's no direct connection but some amusing coincidences, db being the more serendipitous: the jester samurai, performed originally by the great actor Toshiro Mifune. Anyway, it is about a group of outcast, bum samurai, hired by some poor villagers to defend them against a horde of bandits. Same as we assembling here, as a sort of Armatta Brancaleone, to push Sidian's project forward. There's a western called The Magnificent Seven, featuring a super cast from the '60s (Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen, Charles Bronson, James Coburn, etc.) based on 7 Samurai. A good western, but the original is a must, one of my 10, maybe 5 best films ever made.
Good heavens. It's midnight here and I'm shutting down The Dinosaur (my computer). Get some sleep, Gorobei. We need your senses keen.
