Because I'm really hoping to do something besides fight some more, I'm bumping this!

I'm getting close to a barebones implementation of the subscribe feature over on the wiki.  Once that's done, I can start programming something else. If there's something you'd like to do that can be facilitated by some new feature or function, odds are pretty good that I can make it happen. Thing is, I'm not sure what you want to do!

I know what I want to do here, and that's be exposed to the various beliefs in the world and how people live out their lives in response to those beliefs. (That and code. There are interesting technical problems to solve here. More than you might think.) In the interest of being the change I want to see, I'm thinking of starting a weekly series (tentatively called Alex's Wednesday Whatsit) where I throw up a blurb from a faith that none or very few of us adhere to for us all to pick away at.

That doesn't get me any closer to knowing what you want, though. Do you want to do something that the site doesn't look equipped to do? Do you want me to look into streaming webcam feeds so you can argue debate in real time with a scheduled time and topic? Do you want more comparative religion? More exposure to different modes of prayer and spiritual expression? More discourse on specific religions? Some sort of forum game that lets you "win" and imaginarily convert someone to your religion? A new scapegoat?

With sufficient time and patience, nearly anything can be done. Simpler things get done faster, but with no input at all, you might not get anything out of it!

1/ I'm here to share with and learn from others.  I enjoy spirituality and the associated internal and external explorations.

2/ I think the presenting reason to to develop the idea of Open Source Religion.  As this purpose dose not seem in the process of being addressed I think Sid must see this as an archival treasure house in a century or two - else he is writing a book about his grand experiment and what has gone on here. 

3/ I like to see if it is possible to develop a schematic when first representative religions could be documented in a common manner and secondly an interface whereby users could access this information base.  If would all be based on  IF - Then Logic Flow.

 

How do you others feel about sharing your thoughts below.

I don't get "first representative religions" or what you mean by "It would all be based on if-then logic flow." In between, I'm not sure I understand what you're picturing when you say to document the religions or create an interface to access the information.

So, basically, the whole thing. We might need little words and short sentences for my inner fifth grader.

Would you have that I write the project spec?

 

1/ Develop logical (if-then-else) schematic in which the various dimensions of religious believe/understanding could be documented.

2/ Develop an interface whereby users could access this information base in a logical (if-then-else) manner. 

 

For example:

 

CREATION:

The Universe A/ is an arbitrary happenstance (define)

                   B/ exists according to  a design (define)

 

If A/ Do not pass Go, do not get $200

If B/,  B1/ Universe (of matter) was created by God

         B2/ Universe (of matter) is Eternal

 

If B1/, B1.1/ God created matter and life including humans like you and me.

          B1.2/ Matter and life are eternal expressions

 

If B1.1/,  If God created matter and life

                   a/ He created it from nothing

                   b/ He created it out of Himself

 

If B1.2/,  If God matter and life are neither created not destroyed,

                   a/ their eternal essence is physical energy 

                   b/ the essence of matter is physical energy and the essence of human life
                       is metaphysical energy

 

GOD:

God is A/  A personality that controls and oversees the universe

          B/  the energy source that sustains live

 

etc. . . .

 

I think 2 or three interested ones could map out such a schema that it would be fun and interesting for users to punch in co-ordinates and view results. 

Don't get me wrong, it would require an underlying conceptual framework that would allow Buddhists, Hindus, Christians, Muslims and Jews to Punch in their co-ordinates (whatever they may be) and for general uncommitted seekers to mix and match their own co-ordinates according to logical rules in order that discovery would be an outcome.

This is not a menial task, would require resources and input from diverse points of view.

 

Does that at all help clarify.

So the idea is something like an online personality test, except it helps to hone your own thought process through the questioning, and at the end, it offers some suggested reading for seekers and potential TSC subscriptions for people more set in their beliefs?

1. Because I am passionate about the idea of self guided religious instruction, and the decentralization of religious influence.

 

2. To promote a broader and more thorough understanding of what Open Source Religion is.

 

3. Help build the source code and influence how it develops.

It will require a collection of statements to either accept of reject.

 

This is just about the only thing I want to discuss here.

 

I think it should be designed so that derivative and competitive works can be easily created.

 

I think that users should have a full sharable locally stored copy that works without requiring Internet access.

My thinking is more towards each user creating their own locally stored collection. I don't think this website should recommend reading material. It should allow people to find and socially interact with others who have remarkably similar collections.
