Something I came up with years ago I call "the orders of depth". It isn't perfect but I find it useful.

Try using it against the lyrics of a band for reference. I was listening to Tool's Lateralus just now which reminded me of this and I thought I'd share. To me, this album is a great example of covering multiple magnitudes of depth.

Listed from least depth to most:

  1. The Self: Personal thoughts and feelings.
  2. Relationships: Love, hate, and everything in between.
  3. Society: Matters of world-wide human concern.
  4. Existence: Life, death, the Earth, and the cosmos.
  5. God: The presence or lack of one or more gods.

It's interesting to me how you could even loop this back into itself. God is both a cosmic matter and an intimately personal one, linking it back to the first magnitude of depth.
quite all-encompassing...sounds good and astutely observed, to me

God suddenly aware of His Existence, forms a Society of people to research who he/we are. Our Relationships are the exchange of information about who we are, The Self, and the purpose of our existence.

While we may never know where we came from or why we are here The Self in order to find happiness and peace must failing to find a purpose, must create one, using the best tool available  in our tool box of the psyche of personal thought.. Truth and Love.

If God is as I surmise just the energy of the univers, and we are just the thought process of that energy (think firing of synapses for a metaphor or .... maybe as an exact definition of reality), then it is more than just a loop, it is a homogenous mixture.

On a personal level, it is interesting for me , that just as I was about to give up on this place being a showcase for kernel and jeffs "yes it is, no it's not" non reality show.A spark of intelligent life once again emerges from the rubble of a destroyed civilization.

It's unfortunate, but I have to agree, regarding the religious bickering. Debate has it's place, it's certainly kept more traffic coming here, but it doesn't really have anything to do with Open Source Religion itself.

Philosophical discussion, and discussion of belief modules and how people interact with them is more along the lines of what I intend this site to be. It's ok though, some good things are in the works.

lets start with #1 Sidian, the Self.

Each of us has a "self'BUT IT IS NOT WHAT YOU "THINK, (or feel),

The Self is the only "real" part of you, (and it is true for a lll others).

The Self can only exist in the present moment,,it is discovered bt your :awareness" mechanism or faculty in your consciousness (or mind..semantics being an unpaved deeply rutted road).

Your "self"is asleep and needs to be awakened by a lot of work..a lot of disciplines and a lot of attention..but first it needs to be discovered for a moment,,in the present only, (our mind of memories of the past and thoughts about the future creates and sustains the illusion of time passing.

Your "self" Sidion..the "true you has absolutely no content,,no images, thoughts, feelings, ups downs or sideways at all..it is only light and is a zero as far as this world is concerned,,no value and cannot be bought..but it can be discovered and then developed and it will then give you "objectivity" about everything that you "think" you are.

In other words you are a very complex and sophisticated machine enclosing your sleeping self of infinite "light".or in religious tens God..because God is light.

Funny how little that has to do with the topic at hand.

Sid

I am glad to hear there are good things in the works. I hope they will drive more people to this site because it is well set up.

The difficulty in any site is keeping the moderators as unbiased as possible. But both kernel and Jeff have some very good points, if they could stick to the points and stop the combatitive and insulting nature of their comments.

The concept I have always appreciated instead of the 'debate' forum is the 'discussion" forum and the attitude of 'agreeing to disagree' on contentious issues.

Personally I am always between a rock and a hard place , being a "christian" that believes religion all religion, is the anti christ.

The problem I have with  most atheists on the other hand, is their complete disregard for that .... "spirit" within a person that motivates them. Are they doing what they do in a positive spirit of truth and cooperation and compassion and compromise and consideration, or are they doing what they do in a negative spirit of deceit and combatative and hostile and rude insulting manner.

As you can pro bably tell, my belief module is based on the teachings attributed to Christ ...1.Love truth and righteousness above all else, and 2 Love your neighbor as yourself.

For me everything is filtered through those 2 simple commandments. Of course that is the short answer, the long answer goes all the way to a denial of the space time continuum , lol.

I find it difficult to accept your hypothesis. Sure I can accept that our energy or life force may be light. However the whole issue of who "I AM" is based on the factor of "awareness" of my existence.

So you have to add this awareness to that light to know who "I AM" really.

You spoke of memories and hope... the bible says it this way "These three remain, faith , hope and love"

So indeed you do have the three, faith in our memories of the past, hope for our future existence, incorporated in to this light or essence of life that we are.

So basically our 'selfish gene' that is comprised of the dna from our mother and the dna of our father, encases this spark of light and then builds our perception of the physcal body around it/us.

for what purpose? why does this spark of light bother creating and inhabiting a physical body at all?

That is the key to our existence , or perception of reality in this physical form, is it not?

I am not sure which message you are referring to but I would think that all messages here have very much to do with the topic at hand and especially this part

"

  • The Self: Personal thoughts and feelings.
  • Relationships: Love, hate, and everything in between.
