G~0~D~~All that is Good, Orderly & Desirable

THE MEDIA AND RELIGION Years ago, when I served in a church in Willowdale, North Toronto (1966-1994), what I said in my sermons about god, the family, social issues, and the like often appeared in a column I wrote for a North Toronto weekly paper, THE MIRROR--part of the Toronto Star. What I said, especially about 'god', often shocked traditionalists, but it did get the attention of the media. Of course, I AM STILL AT IT. Take a look at yesterday's issue of the National Post, Canada. THE…See More

Profile Information

What religion or philosophy, if any, do you adhere to?
A very inclusive one: The United Church of Canada . Read John 5:19-29; John 10:34; John 17: 20-24; Matt. 5:43-45; 1 John 3:19-24; Hebrew 1 & Heb2:11. Theologically, I call myself a unitheist. It is also very inclusive. For me, GOD is not A being; GOD is TOTAL Being--that is, all that is Good, Omnipotent Order and Dynamically Delightful Design. The O symbolizes that in which the cosmos, and all within the cosmos, including us, exists. Sometimes I write it with a zero, 0 or Ø--G0D, or GØD, to point to god within us.
Subjects I am knowledgable in.
Pneumatology (from which I coined the new the word, pneumatherapy). The definition of pneumatology as found in World Book Dictionary infers that is is the mother of psychology. Of course it is related to philosophy, psychology, somatology, sociology, theology, religion and holistic health--even to politics and the economy.

BTW, pneumatherapy--that is, meditation, and meta-tation--self-hypnosis, without the hocus pocus. This process is so simple, it can be taught in five minutes. It can be even be taught over the phone. Interested? Give me a call 905-764-1125, NO FEE is charged! It is my gift to members of this forum.

My question for the OSR community:
Has any one in the OSR community come up with a unique definition of god?

What do you think of my definition?

Your positive criticism of my use of the acronyms GOD, G.O.D.and recently, G~0~D. Note the use of the Tilde [~] As I said above, sometimes I write it with a zero, 0, or Ø--G0D or GØD or G~0~D within us.

I TRY TO AVOID ANTHROPOMORPHISM
Strange idea? I do this to help myself to stop thinking of an anthropomorphic god--one who is as a masculine, three-dimensional, human-like, limited being--one that can be put in a boxes like churches, synagogues, shrines and temples. Too often, this is what religious leaders do. We try to create a god in our own image--one that we can put in a box.

For the same reason--the avoidance of anthropomorphism--when Orthodox Jews write in English, they write god as G-d. Good for them. Stay tuned and keep in touch.

AUTHOR'S BACKGROUND

Currently, it is January 15, the day

after my 80th. birthday. On one of several visits which the family and I

took to Bell Island www,bellisland.net Newfoundland, where I was born

in 1930, Bill (1912--2004), my oldest living brother at the time, told me:

"You were not born on a frosty Friday, as the old saying goes. You were

born, early in the morning, on a frosty…

Thanks for the invite Rev.

Hope all is well.  You're sounding good and your photo hasn't changed a bit.

Things here have been pretty quiet.  A lot have left. I've been spending time dialoguing with another interesting community at http://spiritualsoul.ning.com/ . . . and have been keeping up with a fairly robust travel itinerary - off to to check out some pyramids in CA next week then India in March.  I recall you were in BC no long ago.

Will look in on the Science AGOGO site soon.  Hope to see you there.  Great yo hear from you.

I'm good my friend. I'm just overloaded with work and children so have little time to divulge my personal Fractal Universe beliefs. There was a great TV programme that did it for me though, called Secret Life of Chaos on BBCi. Watch it for my views of life.

I never thought we were out of touch! Time goes by so quickly. Now I am leaving for Tucson, Arizona, and an international conference on the science of consciousness. These conferences happen every two years, and are marked by great insights and great controversies. I am speaking on the studies of dissociation pioneered by William James et al. at the end of the 19th century.
