The eternal existential question has been asked, in the West, usually as: 'What is the origin (or cause) of evil?'.

Some Thoughts on Evil

I think "Evil" should be defined as "doing anything that is to the detriment of your own species." This would include murder, adultery (for various practical reasons), thievery ( breaks down trust that the community needs for survival), any kind of damaging emotional abuse, abuse of power, etc. It would of course include pedophilia, which is damaging to children, but not homosexuality, because, though it doesn't further the species, you can't force someone to join the gene pool.
