I have been thinking a lot lately about how lucky I am to live in a country where I can have my own religion and that it is pretty much tolerated by the people around me and by my government. I don’t have to worry about being arrested or killed or ridiculed because of my religion. A friend of mine just visited china, and she told me how you have to be really careful not to mention religion at all. It’s illegal to get together and have any religious meetings, without first getting permission from the government. I babysit for a lady that risked her life trying to escape from Iran because of all the religious injustice that was going on towards the Bahai’s. I think I have taken for granted that I live in a society that accepts all different types of religions, ways of living, and ways of thinking.
I can’t imagine what it would be like to live in a country where my religious views are not tolerated. This is why I think toleration is so important.
